Happy Hump Day friends :)
I have enjoyed writing these blog posts so much. I wish I would have started sooner. LOL.
Monday I talked about how to develop awareness in a 10-step, about 20 minute session. Obviously one session isn't going to magically change your life, but having awareness of what is no longer serving you gives you the opportunity and choice to shift to something new. To create a new story to tell yourself, your family, your kids, and the world. Some say the "action" part is the hardest, but in my opinion it's the most fun. You get to actively choose to live a happier, more fulfilled life. That is not hard, that is the freedom of choice. A few quick things before I dive into the actions I took to shift my energy:
- When I refer to letting go what I mean is acknowledging the thoughts/emotions/patterns that come up and then letting them flow by like a wave. For example if you are someone who is wanting to move to a new city and a negative thought of "But I won't have any friends or family there and I will be lonely" comes into your mind I would acknowledge the thought being there and then I would choose to say "I know I can make new friends because I have done that in the past and being alone gives you the opportunity to understand yourself better and gain confidence" and move on from the thought. Think of thoughts as waves, they come in and they go. We are NOT our thoughts, so no need to latch on to them.
- I believe the only way to cultivate awareness is to be in stillness, with oneself for periods of time. I have done it, my teachers and coaches have done it as well. Stillness can mean a lot of things, I will talk about meditation, now if that doesn't work for you that's fine. But to truly shift your internal state you need stillness on a consistent basis to come back to as a stating place to notice what comes up, choose differently, and take action from a more aligned place.
- Action. I get a little bothered when I hear action because I think it is talked up to be this huge thing you have to do when that's not true. Examples of aligned action that are simple and not overwhelming: Texting a friend to see if her company has job openings, writing a new resume, applying for 10 jobs, journaling about the type of job/relationship you want, meditating for 5 minutes a day, going for a 10 minute walk, adding in an apple to your diet, saying out loud "I am open to creative possibilities to get what I desire". All examples of small daily actions that can lead to big life changes.
The actions I took to shift my energy from a state of lack, judgement, and fear to one filled with Iove, an open mind, and open heart, and a willingness to free myself from fear.
- Meditation- every single day for a minimum of 5 minutes. I started with 5 minutes and continued to level up. I could do as long as an hour, but I choose between 20-30 minutes now. Why meditation? It was the only thing I have found that forced me to be alone with my thoughts, observe what was no longer working for me, and simultaneously shifted myself into a new thought pattern. The reason meditation works is you are finally quiet enough to hear your inner voice, and you are using your breath to imagine and feel into a higher level frequency. Why is that important? The only way to call in the things you wrote down you want, is to become an energetic match for them. If you want to become a millionaire, you need to vibrate on the energetic level of a millionaire.
- I would start to take into consideration feedback from close friends and family on what they would say about me and my character. Ex: I was loud and could be very opinionated about certain things. Do I believe you need to take all feedback? NOPE. But I do think when you hear the same thing over and over again you can ask yourself if this is something you resonate with? Is this a part of you you like? Or do you wish you could elevate that reaction into one of a higher frequency? If you choose the latter, this is where you can start to take action in the opposite way. Ex: You typically are quick to get mad/angry if something doesn't go your way. Next time you feel yourself get mad, take a few breaths, and choose differently. Maybe you don't respond at all, maybe you remove yourself from the environment, or maybe you take out your notes app on your phone and write down why you are angry and then let it go. Once you choose differently, you have taken action towards a higher frequency. Do that consistently and you will notice your energy shift. YOU have shifted YOUR energy with one simple action.
- I would say no to anything that aligned to a past version of myself. If a guy came along that wasn't what I knew I wanted I said no immediately, if a job didn't have certain requirements I wanted I said no. If something felt bad in my gut I said no right away. I started to only align myself with who I wanted to be. I distanced myself from friends who were projecting onto me or trying to control me. I decided to get out of Dallas, because I wasn't happy. I talked to and put myself around like-minded people who inspired me to one day take the leap into owning my own business.
- This might be the most IMPORTANT, I REPEAT the exact same routines everyday to strengthen my inner voice and deeply develop self-awareness. I meditate everyday, I am open-minded to feedback, I admit when I am wrong and when I can learn, I stay away from people who aren't aware or who aren't serving me and I say yes to things that challenge me. I PRACTICE what I preach. I choose to respond differently in my relationships, I lead with empathy and I allow myself room to breath and grow. This work doesn't happen overnight but the most important thing you can do for yourself, your relationships and your career is to become so self-aware that no one can tell you something you don't know. That right there is YOUR superpower. That right there is what I call the SHIFT in ENRGI you have been looking for.
I hope this post inspires you to take action toward the life you want. To let go of what no longer serves you and to bring in new habits each day to bring you closer to a life full of awareness. The love, job, life you want is on the other side of 20 minutes a day of silence, reflection and aligned action. YOU GOT THIS.
